Still can’t quite wrap my head around the fact that I spent my first artist residency in a chateau in France, waking up every day to the sound of church bells, birds singing, and the smell of freshly baked croissants, thinking about nothing but painting, learning, playing, and just …being.

It’s funny how much more of ourselves we get to discover when we’re placed in environments that don’t require anything from us.

Really grateful to have shared this with some of the kindest, most creative people I’ve ever met. There are only a few times I get to genuinely say this, but man, what a life.

you ever notice how everything now feels a little too much

too fast
too loud
too constant

you wake up and you’re already behind
notifications
updates
things to respond to

and somehow even when you stop
your mind doesn’t

it keeps scrolling

that’s what fast life does
it doesn’t just move quickly
it trains you to stay restless

so even quiet starts to feel uncomfortable

this is why it’s important to place yourself in calm spaces
more importantly to surround yourself with quiet objects

they don’t try to grab you
they don’t need your attention

they just sit there
steady

and if you give them a second
they start to slow you down too

your breathing
your thoughts
your pace

not everything has to compete
some things can just exist

and sometimes
that’s exactly what you need around you.

There is something deeply meditative about a slow golden afternoon in a quiet studio.

Isn’t it interesting how the soft rose and its sharp thorns share the same root? I kept returning to a line from an old sonnet: “Sweet is the rose, but grows upon a brere.” The thought lingered with me for a while, the way small observations do: this quiet understanding that the flower and the thorn come from the same place, and that you do not really get one without the other.

I made this painting after finding a meadow that didn’t quite feel real. the light was thinning into that soft in-between hour. the grasses washed in beige and quiet green. the sky a pale golden sunset. i kept walking toward it thinking something would clarify, but the horizon shifted each time i moved.

so i sat and wrote instead. about how some places live only at the edge of memory, how the nearly can stay with us longer than the arrival. this painting is not the meadow exactly, but the feeling of almost reaching it and choosing to keep that distance. Looking back I wish I had taken a photo, but maybe this is why I paint—to remember.

I painted this after a slow afternoon rain, when everything felt softer and a little golden.

The petals had fallen, but they looked at peace, resting on the wet ground like they belonged there all along. It made me think about how some things don’t need to be held onto forever. They can just land gently and still be beautiful.

So I kept that moment.

A reminder that what you surround yourself with every day is shaping your nervous system, whether you’re aware of it or not.

Slow living isn’t a mindset you adopt but a physiological response that happens when the body receives fewer signals to stay alert.

This is why environment matters more than intention. What you see, hear, and return to repeatedly teaches your body whether it’s safe to soften or necessary to brace.

Calm isn’t forced through effort or optimism. It’s built quietly, through surroundings that allow your system to rest.

A reminder that what you surround yourself with every day is shaping your nervous system, whether you’re aware of it or not.

Perhaps one of my most favorite feelings in the world is seeing my work live in the homes of my friends and people that I love. Nothing propels me to keep doing what I do like knowing I’ve contributed something valuable to someone’s safe space. I want to thank all of my collectors for giving me the opportunity to do that. 🤍

At the end of the day it’s all preservation. Of a blip in time. A memory. A feeling. A force so immense it spills out of you like a flood finally breaking its banks, uncontainable and inevitable, insisting on becoming art.
