The Artist

Kristian Somera is a self-taught artist based in Metro Manila. Living with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Kristian channels the complex inner machinations of his mind through storytelling.  He is a nationally published writer, a creative director, and a contemporary painter. It is through his endless pursuit to tell stories and convey a wide range of emotions that Kristian developed his affinity for abstract expressionism.

Despite being a newcomer into the art scene, he has sold out multiple collections and his works have been featured in publications like Mega Magazine, Vanity Fair UK and British Vogue.

Through his art, Kristian gains a deeper understanding of life. Through his creative process, he develops new perspectives that lie beyond the structure of language which he hopes would resonate with spectators of his work.

He works mostly with watered down acrylic and different media. His influences include: Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Motherwell, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, among others. He draws inspiration from nature, and the beauty found in imperfection.

He believes that amid disorder there can be balance; amid the disarray, there’s beauty.
